I cook the cabbage at the finish. Cut it in wedges and cooked seperately from the meat. I use 1/two cooking liquid from the meat and 1/2 chicken broth with butter added to the liquid. Cooked until just crisp tender. Gives the cabbage a lovely season, it stays greenish and doesn't get all mushy.
03/17/2011
This recipe is very skilful as written and is very easy to make. I ever like to read the reviews and make the recipe the original way and and so once again and tweek to reviews equally needed, I like helpful constructive reviews. The just frustrating thing is when people alter the whole recipe. They should ship in their ain. Tracey did non even annotate on this recipe,(not sure if she tried information technology) put hers in the reviews and said her family unit volition just consume hers. That is great but I feel it is a disrespectful to the persons recipe. Delight send in slight changes to help us, practise not rewrite. Thank you

Absolutely delicious. I started out past cooking this on the stove elevation as the recipe states (for near 45 minutes) but due to a family emergency, I had to exit the house. Before leaving, I put the meat and liquid into my crock pot. By the time I got domicile, the meat was perfectly cooked (45 minutes on stove, then 7 hours in crock pot for an almost 3 lb. roast). I took the advice of some other reviewers and added 1/2 stick of butter to the liquid every bit the meat cooked and I also used beef broth instead of water. The next mean solar day on the stovetop I cooked the cabbage, carrots and potatoes in the liquid the meat cooked in the night before. When the vegetalbes were done, I added the meat back into the liquid simply to warm information technology. It was SOOOOOO good!! I volition definitely make this again!!

Fantastic! I have always kind of "winged" it with corned beefiness and cabbage, with varying degrees of success. I read many of the reviews and added a bottle of beer to the water to simmer the meat in. WOW! This is information technology! From now on, no more than winging it! For spices, I used the packet seasonings, some minced garlic. Added unpeeled red potatoes, onion slices, babe carrots and of course cabbage wedges.
06/09/2005
this is my first time making corned beef and cabbage, and my fiance and i thought it was terrfic, the meat was very tender and juicy while the vegetables was absolutley superb & tasty. The corned beef was iii.75 lbs that came along with the spice packet, instead of water i used beef broth, added 6 big cloves of garlic, 1 large white onion cut up into wedges, 2 bay leaves, 12 whole peppercorns, ten small reddish potatoes/carrots, 3 tbls of butter to bring out the richness of gustation ... all in a crockpot -- information technology took me eight hours to melt this dinner and it was worth every infinitesimal of it.
eleven/09/2010
I did not have to melt this recipe, this is the aforementioned equally my grandfather always made it. To the people out the writing reviews adding beef goop and what not . . THIS IS NOT Beef STEW! Information technology IS NOT SUPPOSED TO Sense of taste Like IT. If you change the recipe so y'all are making something else. This is exactly how you make Irish corned beef and cabbage. If you change information technology, then you are making something else.

Jeepers, it needs onions! Everything except desserts needs onions!
03/17/2013
This will be the fouth time using this recipe and it is simple and yummy. The small-scale changes I practice is cut upwardly the potatoes and use pocket-size carrots that I don't have to cut or peel. I don't understand why the most helpful review on here does not follow this recipe at ALL! Please post your own recipe and let people review it. I find information technology Not helpful to me when reading reviews. If you add together Beef broth, brown sugar, mushrooms, onions, even beer. I tin empathize ane or 2 changes but all that is something different so Corned beef and cabbage.
03/16/2009
Cheers again for a wonderful recipe but thanks as well to all who write these great reviews. It is and so nice to read what cooks think of the dish they make. Yesterday I fabricated this Corned Beef & Cabbage & in my 45 years married to wonderful Irish husband he tells his Italian wife that it was the all-time yet. WOW! What is funny to me most Allrecipes.com is that now whenever I come up up with a new dish, friends or family will say: Allrecipe.com?? They know me by now. The reviews helped and then much on these recipes. The problem I had with this is that at that place were no spice packets in the pkg. and then I just did my ain thing…4 garlic cloves, crushed, pepper corns, mustard corns, 2 bay leaves, pepper, dry out mustard & the only change I made was adding bottle of beer. When the beef was washed I put it in a dish, covered with foil. Then cooked my veggies in those wonderful juices till non quite done. When they were done I put them in a dish with broth, covered with foil & put in a warm oven till I was fix to serve. Sliced my cooled downwards beefiness, put in a 13 X 9 dish covered with foil put in oven till set up to serve. I did make the Horseradish sauce and information technology was very good equally well, but I plant that it was cold adjacent to the nice hot corned beef. I'm sticking to Grey Poupon….Too a piffling sprinkle of white vinegar on cabbage is great. Likewise helps with any problem that may occur after!! ? Outstanding!! Wow…great recipe. Thanks Laria and thank you all with the great reviews. Nana Happy St. Patrick's D

Best Corned Beef and Cabbage Always!! I didn't alter a thing and it turned out perfect!! Super simple recipe with amazing results! YUM
12/22/2009
Straightforward recipe that turned out a tasty boiled dinner. The just matter I'd practice differently adjacent fourth dimension is skim the elevation in one case it boils the first time and and so add together the spices.
01/28/2004
I executed the recipe as is (can't truly charge per unit it otherwise tin can y'all?) and was thoroughly pleased with the results. Timing is very subjective of course, depending on the the kind of pot you utilize (enamelled atomic number 26, steel...), your stovetop (gas, electrical, halogen...) or oven (regular, convection...), merely the times given in the original recipe are a very good estimate - merely remember that tenderness is what you aim for. My only add-on was a generous swirl of sweet butter in the strained broth before serving; it adds a lovely richness to the sauce. Viii thumbs up (at that place were four of us)!
03/sixteen/2006
This is the mode information technology'southward done. Nosotros always told my mother to brand actress veggie's because we knew what was coming the side by side day and that was the best part. The next day was cold sliced corned beef and my female parent'south vegetable fry. She would chop up all the leftover potatoes, carrots and cabbage and fry upwardly in a well seasoned fe skillet.. what she used as base of operations, butter I think, she would allow melt until it got crispy, then turn and practice again. To this day, I can not indistinguishable just keep trying. Try it yous will love it. A medley of season..
03/10/2010
I've been doing it this way for over 30 years. In the final one-half hour I'll pull the brisket from the pot, put it in a roaster and cover it with 1/4 cup of brown sugar and place covered in the oven with just a small amt of juice in the bottom. The chocolate-brown saccharide will cook and create a wonderful glaze for the corned beef. While the beef is in the oven I'll use the liquid in the pot for the veges and so I'll also add a layer of dumplings to the top after the veges begin to boil. Luv it so much that I do it more than simply Patty's Twenty-four hours
x/07/2011
The perfect simple Corned Beef recipe. At that place'south plenty of ways to prepare this meat, simply if you desire simple and succulent just follow along and you won't be disappointed. I am usually a recipe "modder" I seem to always be adjusting quantities and adding things. However lately I have been just trying recipes equally they are written to notice out how the writer likes it. This ane was fantastic! I was very skeptical of the simplicity, but wow it merely was corking! Thanks alot!
04/08/2008
Neat recipe. added tracey hint: I accept the corned beef out and while the cabbage carrots and pot's are cooking in the liquid, I put the brisket in the oven for 30 minutes with this sauce that I combine on the stove until smooth. 1/3 loving cup of chocolate-brown sugar,2 tblsp of butter tlbs. of prepared mustard, 1/3 loving cup of ketchup, and 3 tblsp of apple tree cider vinegar. I combine these ingredients till smooth, then pour over the brisket while the veggies are cooking. thirty to twoscore mins. at 350 volition exercise it. Promise you like it, all of my friends who hate corned beef will only eat mine!
04/12/2014
Lovely people, This recipe is wonderful written 'as is' - but I'd like to speak to those of you who are aggravated about people changing up the recipe and so rating information technology, since 'irresolute it up' really doesn't requite you an accurate review of the recipe every bit written. I take this to offer: Some of united states of america use what'southward on-hand rather than going out and buying ingredients specific to the recipe. I find this very helpful on occasion because 1) you might non take to become shopping if you employ the substitutes or 2) you lot can learn a different way to use a spice or other ingredient - which only makes y'all a meliorate cook. As well - I've establish a few recipe reviewers who accept taken allergies into consideration. Sometimes those 'change ups' tin can exist invaluable and salve fourth dimension when you don't have to scour the Internet trying to find a fashion to omit a sure ingredient but still go the full outcome of the dish. I, too, am sometimes frustrated with the review system - but if you try to empathize where the reviewer is coming from, sometimes you can make a 'just okay' dish into something completely out of your original realm of thinking. Tolerance, folks ... just past the mere fact that people take the fourth dimension to review dishes, even if they exercise change them a bit, shows they care enough to share their data with you. Happy cooking!
03/12/2011
I add together ane more pace (delicious) after you remove the corned beef from the liquid, brush the top with regular prepared mustard and then add a thin layer of light brown suger on top of the mustard, put into a 350 oven for about 30 min.
04/03/2012
I fixed this four times in March. I do believe that it is the all-time Corned beef and Cabbage recipe. I have a very practiced Irish gaelic friend of 75 yrs erstwhile and she told me it was the best she ever had...and preceded to tell information technology to the owners of a 100 twelvemonth former Irish cafeteria and store. I cooked it in only guiness beer and beef broth. Added peppercorns, bay leaf and onions. When the meat was tender I removed it from the pot and glazed it with a tart Orangish marmalade, brown mustard and brown sugar glaze and wrapped in foil and put it in the oven. Then I strained the broth, then added the potatoes and carrots and a stick of butter. I cooked the cabbage (I used savoy cabbage) in a separate skillet, braising it in the broth with butter until cooked but withal crispy. Made a Horseradish sauce of 3/4 sour cream, i/four horseradish, 1 tlbs dried chives and the juice of i/2 lemon. This recipe will print anyone y'all serve it to.
08/ten/2008
Skillful recipe. The corned beef is really great when served topped with a horseradish dressing. 1/two cup mayo, 1/2 loving cup sourcream and horseradish to taste.
03/12/2009
This has been my standard recipe for years. I have found i thing that takes it to the superlative. Afterward the corned beef is done cooking I remove it from the pot or crock pot and peak information technology with a glaze of mustard and brown carbohydrate. You can mix it to your liking. I make a lot and allow it baste downward all the sides. I then put information technology in the oven until information technology is heated through and the brownish sugar is dissolved. And so piece and enjoy.
03/fourteen/2012
I agree with others...skip the crock pot...the former fashioned way works best. I like to cook the corned beef, remove from water and wrap in aluminum foil to go along hot. Then I strain the water to get out the peppercorns and re-use to melt potatoes, carrots and cabbage. This way you don't bite into a big peppercorn hiding in the cabbage.
03/20/2007
As per some of the suggestions, I used 2 cans of beer & two cans of beef goop instead of water and cooked it for 7 hours in the crockpot. I also added 3 cloves of garlic and an onion to the crockpot. I should take given the potatoes and carrots 90 minutes. I simply allowed for 30 and dinner was quite belatedly. Fifty-fifty my husband liked it who swore he hates corned beef and has never liked cabbage - only he ate it all!
03/11/2012
this was fabulous, first I boiled the corned beef on elevation of stove in water, one guinness, i bay leaf, the spice packet, and one shot of Jameson whiskey, I followed the advice of some other review which said to glaze the corned beef for the last forty minutes with the 1/three loving cup brown sugar, 2tbsp melted butter, ane tbsp prepared mustard, ane/3 cup of ketchup, and 3 tbsp of apple cider vinegar, bake 40 minutes at 350degrees while the vegetables are cooking, cutting the corned beefiness across the grain. Serve with soda breadstuff. It is soooo good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
03/02/2005
Only a annotation that may help in cooking this meal, Add some Caraway seeds when y'all add the cabbage. Information technology will assistance to go rid of the gas that you will probably become from eating the cabbage.
09/xv/2006
Traditional corned beef for St. Patrick'southward Day.. or any other time of the year when you can't stand up to have it merely once! ***UPDATE: I made this over again this year and it was admittedly succulent, but with these alterations: I used 1 can of Guiness, beef broth, and a water to boil the meat. In addition to the spice packet, I added two-3 tbsp. mustard seeds, whole black peppercorns, and 3 bayleaves. The cabbage took about 20 minutes to cook fifty-fifty when I turned upwardly the temp (I took out the meat). I would recommend two heads of cabbage b/c I similar the cabbage. I used about an entire (save the few I snacked on while cooking) 1 lb. bag of babe carrots and 12 babe cerise potatoes. I wouldn't omit the potatoes b/c they blot a lot of the salt and you can end up with a really salty roast. Anyhow, this recipe is a cracking starting point, only with additions it can exist crawly... and information technology was! Everybody gobbled it up on St. Patty'south. Thanks!
03/17/2012
This was very good! The simply change I made was to add three large cloves of chopped garlic. I also made a sauce for the brisket as mentioned by a member named Tracey. This is what she said... "I take the corned beefiness out and while the cabbage carrots and pot'south are cooking in the liquid, I put the brisket in the oven for 30 minutes with this sauce that I combine on the stove until shine. 1/3 loving cup of brownish saccharide,ii tblsp of butter tlbs. of prepared mustard, 1/iii cup of ketchup, and 3 tblsp of apple tree cider vinegar. I combine these ingredients till polish, and so cascade over the brisket while the veggies are cooking. 30 to 40 mins. at 350 will do it. Hope you similar it, all of my friends who hate corned beef volition only consume mine!"... Tracey'southward sauce recipe was PERFECT!!! I'll make my corned beef like this from now on!
02/05/2013
Good, basic and functional - what I'd telephone call a reference recipe. I did mine in the slow cooker and added a bottle of Guiness Draught with enough water to cover. I cooked the cabbage separately in some of the cooking liquid. Reliable, but more instructional than a unique recipe.
02/17/2014
I'm Irish. VERY Irish. And this is my GO TO recipe for corned beef and cabbage. I merely gave it 3 stars, so why is it my Go To?? I gave it 3 stars based on how it tastes as-is. It's my Go To because it keeps the recipe simple. Here's the thing - you lot don't have to do anything fancy to make amazing, over-the-meridian corned beef and cabbage. People remember information technology needs to be complicated. It doesn't!! The Simply thing I added and it makes a HUGE difference - ane/2 jar of McCormick Pickling Spice. I forgot this ingredient once and never will once more.
05/04/2009
this is the best corned beef and cabbage i have ever tasted an perpared, subed beef broth for h2o and cooked veggies in broth......wow i couldnt stop eating. Thanks? LOL
03/17/2014
I followed the recipe exactly as written. Oh, except I changed a one thousand thousand things. By the time information technology was finished, information technology was an entirely different meal. Loved information technology!
03/13/2011
I only fabricated this recipe tonight. I didn't change a unmarried matter! IT WAS Crawly!!!
06/05/2013
Cut off the big fat then cover the corn beefiness with beefiness broth Add peppercorns, bay leaf and onions to spice bundle. Earlier adding the spice packet, y'all get-go bring the meat to a boil and skim the foamy stuff off the top of the h2o.. cook meat @ 50 min. per lb Have the corned beefiness out and while the cabbage carrots and pot'south are cooking in the liquid, Add together some Caraway seeds when you add the cabbage. Glaze for brisket Put the brisket in the oven for 30 minutes with this sauce that I combine on the stove until polish. 1/iii loving cup of brown sugar, two tblsp of butter tlbs. of prepared mustard, 1/iii cup of ketchup, and iii tblsp of apple cider vinegar. I combine these ingredients till smooth, then cascade over the brisket while the veggies are cooking. xxx to xl mins. at 350 will practice it.
12/28/2009
Hi, quick question. If I want to finish this in the oven exercise I shorten the original cooking fourth dimension? Thank you
02/28/2011
Oh my gosh! Wonderful. I prepared information technology right past the recipe. My family of 5 gobbled upwards a two.7 pound corned beef brisket in no time. There wasn't much conversation at this meal, except that they were begging me to cook this once again even before nosotros were done eating. Will definately cook again!
03/xi/2009
My married man and I enjoyed this very much. Our kids had never eaten Corn beef, so they were on the fence, withal for them. They loved the veggies very very much. I placed this in the crock pot/slow cooker all day. I used a 6qt on high. My pot was really full so the cabbage I placed in 1 1/ii hours out from serving dinner. All the veggies were soo good. The meat was very tender, flavored well and soo piece of cake to dissever for slices. Volition make this again for married man and I.
09/08/2008
This is the same recipe my grandma taught me just to salvage time, I put everything in the crock pot.
11/03/2002
Wonderful recipe! I would definately make this again. Nonetheless, I would change a couple of things. First, if the corned beef you buy has an excessive corporeality of fat on the underside as many of them exercise, trim the fat. Also, do as one reviewer suggested, add beef broth instaed of water. I also added an onion. Loved this like shooting fish in a barrel to make recipe. Try it.
03/fourteen/2009
I made this i concluding week and information technology was really skillful. I rinsed off the beef when I took information technology out of the package, then proceeded as directed. I used regular potatoes, peeled and cut in one-half instead of the red potatoes and they worked fine. I cooked the potatoes and carrots virtually thirty minutes before calculation the cabbage. The meat was very tender and the veggies cooked merely right.
03/18/2009
I wait all yr for this meal only I had never fabricated information technology myself until this year. A friend gave me the advice to pull the beefiness out of the pot when you put the veggies in, sprinkle dark-brown sugar on top and bake it at 350' until the veggies and cabbage are done. Information technology was So skilful! Please endeavor this!!!
01/08/2014
Followed exactly and it was fantastic. Husband wants more!
03/xiv/2009
I don't even like corned beef and cabbage and this was a striking! For the most part, I stuck to the recipe. Just added one bottle of Harp beer, a Tbs. of minced garlic and a dash of celery table salt. I did non include the potatoes with the meat because we were having another murphy sidedish, only I think they would've been good cooked in the pot. I cooked a 3 1/4lb. piece of meat for about four hours and it shredded beautifully. Great recipe!
01/09/2012
Xclnt, easy dish! made this a few times. I use a VERY large pot. I added one can of low-cal beer, and about 2 cups of apple juice. Then filled the balance with h2o to embrace meat. 45mins before brisket should be done, I add carrots and potatoes. 20mins earlier everything is done, I added the cabbage. YUM-O!
12/ten/2006
OH MY! So much for post-obit the recipe. While my beef was simmering in eight cups of h2o for 2.v hrs, I took a siesta. The water all evaporated and the beef burned. Fourth dimension to start again. A glass of vino for me, or maybe two, a fresh brisket, and half again as much h2o.
06/16/2008
I have been making this for years. I besides add together a bottle of beer. I too use new potatos and celery, carrots, onion, fresh snap peas, fresh garlic, black pepper corns, mustard seed, dill seed, and lemon juice. Red pepper and bell pepper. I tin can eat this for days. I don't trim the fat. The fat is one of my favorite parts. This is one of the very few recipes I make that I am not fat conscious nearly. This and steaks. I can eat this soup for days 6 times a twenty-four hour period!
03/17/2011
This is the classic preparation. I follow this procedure with a few changes: Cut the cabbage into large chunks and steam it separately until tender. Add as much butter as your nutrition volition let :) and season with salt and pepper. When the corned beef is fully cooked, remove it and put it in a baking dish. Mix mustard and brown sugar to make a very thick paste. Spread the paste on meridian of the corned beefiness. Put the meat under the broiler until information technology bubbles and crisps. By cooking the cabbage separately and calculation the brownish sugar paste yous'll bask more variety of flavors and you lot'll get a little crisis for texture.
02/26/2007
This was my first time making Corned Beef and Cabbage and this recipe is definitely a keeper. I volition be making this again! I used the red apartment corned beef, turnip, peeled potatoes (both crimson and Russet - couldn't tell the difference in taste), carrots, cabbage, white onion. My corned beef did not come west/ a spice package, just when the meal is complete, the sense of taste is even so to die for. I added a piffling salt and pepper and a bit of garlic, just there is really no need to.
03/19/2004
I'one thousand a rookie when it comes to cooking. In fact, I take never cooked a complete meal before attempting this recipe. On St. Patrick's day, my wife was working and I wanted to surprise her with a corn beef and cabbage dinner when she got home. The directions were easy to follow and the finished product was outstanding! I also fabricated corn bread (my first attempt at blistering bread). I used chicken broth instead of just water as some others had recommended. The carrots and potatoes were actually good as well!! I was really surprised how delecious the meal turn out so was my wife!!
x/04/2005
Love this recipe! Other reviewers propose adding beefiness broth, peppercorns, etc., simply I think this comfort food is best made but, just like good 'ol mashed potatoes. Speaking of potatoes, if you decide not to employ them, expect the broth to be pretty salty since the potatoes blot a expert amount of salt during the cooking process. Also, for those with kids, brew the potatoes and carrots together (or separately) with a fork, add a lilliputian butter, and they'll probably love it! Mine did (age vi and 7).
03/fourteen/2011
used 4.7lb beefiness, two heads cabbage, 7 med yellow taters . Cooked beef 3hr20min,added taters cook ane 60 minutes, added cabbage . cooked 30-35min till cabbabe tender merely crispy ! swell !!!
10/xi/2002
YUM! I added actress peppercorns & beef broth instead of h2o (as others suggested), classic cb&c, we honey information technology! My picky daughter ate left over chicken with the potatoes & carrots ;)Thanks Laria!
12/25/2006
if yous want to add together a bit more color and peradventure a hint more sweetness to this recipe, attempt red cabbage with the green, it is wonderful.
03/16/2012
Adding a store bought spice mix and adding information technology to h2o is not a recipe.
01/01/2011
Simply perfect! Even hubby liked it and he is not a veggie lovin guy so I wasn't sure about the cabbage but he went back for thirds!
12/18/2013
OMG This is so tasty it'southward to die for! Yous don't need ANY other seasoning other than the niggling parcel that comes with the beef, non even salt. The meat itself does all the seasoning and flavoring for you. Don't be scared virtually how your cabbage volition sense of taste! Another lilliputian tip - ADD SOME ONIONS. I love onions and it makes everything that much amend!! :) My family devoured this pot!
08/17/2002
Somewhat tasteless - won't cook over again.
02/01/2011
I love this recipe as it is, just I institute making ii pocket-sized modifications makes information technology fifty-fifty ameliorate (at least in my family'south stance). Commencement, add together a half-cup or and then of cooking sherry to the pot before starting. Second, replace the cabbage with i-1.5 pounds of Brussels sprouts. It makes for a squeamish twist on an old favorite.
01/28/2011
Fabled! Like a some other reviewer, I had always winged it when it came to corned beef & cabbage. I followed this recipe to a tee and absolutely everything came our PERFECT! Corned Beef tender and starting to autumn apart - which I love - and the potatoes, carrots and cabbage were perfectly soft but not soggy. From here on out, this volition exist THE recipe to use!
03/fifteen/2010
This is astonishing! I used another reviewers tip and used one can of beer and iii big cloves garlic pressed through my garlic press (and then enough water to embrace beef and adding the spices from the packet) and added 1 whole stick of butter at the same time I added the cabbage. I as well cut my potatoes because they were fairly large blood-red potatoes and that worked well. Great Great Great Recipe!!!!
03/11/2011
I prepared this just similar the directions and my family but loved it!!
03/09/2014
Everything is okay until the total lack of onions. One onion, white or yellow, medium small per person.
03/xv/2011
Actually, real Irish don't fifty-fifty swallow this. It's an American Irish immigrant tradition from when this cut of meat was most the cheapest available. the poorer they were, the less that went into it. They also didn't have the nice fiddling spice packet either. Anyway, add together the carrots, garlic, and if yous feeling sassy, add broccoli tips. boil with a guinnes
12/31/2012
This recipe is perfect. I had never made corned beef earlier because I did not like it as a child, but my hubby is Irish and really missed it. I tried this skeptically -- We all loved information technology! Now my kids request it all the time. The all-time part about information technology is that the cabbage just cooks through, so it is not mushy and tasteless. It has a wonderful, fresh season and is very easy to make.
03/12/2009
Nosotros did not intendance for this at all! The veggies were not washed enough & the cooktime wasn't long enough to disperse the flavors. I think it needs to be cooked all day.
03/15/2010
I fabricated this Sunday, it was to die for. My husband just loved the beefiness, said it was the best he has e'er eaten. Thank you
01/01/2013
Perfect and piece of cake! I tried corned beef concluding year in a pressure cooker, information technology tasted nothing like this. This is easy. I made it exact to instructions with a 3 lb corned beefiness. Even my family liked the carrots, and no one in my family likes cooked carrots. We just voted to have this on a normal rotation for dinner instead of just new years 24-hour interval and St. Patrick's day.
04/04/2011
fabricated equally written. Information technology was expert. The 2nd time I added a little red wine and water, iii bay leaves, 3 whole cloves of garlic, ii stalks celery, iii carrots,1/2 onion, and spice packet. Left the potatoes out. Added cabbage concluding hour of cooking. Turned out perfect!
05/12/2009
This is the first time my corned beef came out cracking. Cheers for the recipe
01/21/2012
This is an excellent recipe! The only other thing I add is an onion.
03/14/2009
Astonishing. The pot I used was a little small-scale, so it was a tight fit, but I made it work. Delicious carrots, potatoes, cabbage, and such tender corned beef. A fantastic recipe.
03/04/2003
This is a great recipe. Very easy, which is important. Using beef goop was a good suggestion, yet the meat that I used could take cooked a little longer and the cabbage was a piddling under done, probably 25 min would be better than 15. Merely overall it was very tasty and the whole family loved information technology!
03/xiv/2007
We melt this recipe every year at our St. Patty's Twenty-four hours political party (sans the potatoes, add more cabbage), and our party grows every year due to give-and-take of mouth about the corned beef. Concluding year nosotros hosted over 100 people and went through six large crockpots of corned beef and cabbage.
05/21/2006
Great recipe! I used a giant roaster for this meal since we like a lot cabbage. This recipe is fool proof and always comes out perfect. I practise put my carrots in with the meat cooking process since my family likes softer carrots and I add the potatos and cabbage together so you go no tough cabbage in the end. Thank you for the recipe!
03/14/2015
I have tried many recipes like this and they are all expert. I'm directing my comments to all the negative people out there. Leave it lone, anybody knows it is not an Irish dish It is a wonderful i pot repast Stay positive and enjoy. Have a wonderful family day enjoying this meal.
02/27/2011

"What's more Irish than a traditional recipe for corned beef and cabbage?" The answer is - lots of things! Corned beef and cabbage is non a traditional Irish dish. Born and bred in Ireland, I was in my l'due south when I spent some fourth dimension in the US and was told that everyone eats corned beefiness and cabbage on St. Paddy's Mean solar day. I had never heard of information technology and I still have never tasted it. When I came home from that trip I did ask around, in case I somehow had missed this vital office of Irish tradition, but, no, I take yet to come up across any Irish gaelic national who has really eaten corned beef and cabbage. Further research has taught me that, in fact, Irish immigrants to America began eating corned beef, which they bought from Jewish butchers, because of their new-found affluence. At habitation, in Ireland, it was only the very wealthy who could beget to eat beefiness. So, eating corned beef on Paddy's Twenty-four hour period is really an American-Irish gaelic-Jewish tradition.

Wow, I listened to the reviews. I added 10 pepper corns, three cloves of garlic, 1 bay leaf. I cooked a iv pound trimmed cut for three hours then moved it to the oven with Tracey's (her review is highly rated) sauce while I cooked the veggies. The best corn beefiness I accept ever had. My family mowed through it. This should not be reserved for St Pats day. This is a earth class meal....

This is the first time I accept made corned beef and cabbage this style. Commonly I brand it in the crock pot. I always worried nigh information technology non coming out tender if it was boiled. This recipe was perfect, the only affair I added was a tin can of beer for more than flavor. I volition be making it this mode from now on. Bye goodbye crock pot recipe!

Good template for a superb classic dish. I highly recommend using a tin can or two low-sodium beef broth instead of h2o, which really enhances flavor without oversalting the recipe. If y'all're a garlichead like me try tossing in 5 or half-dozen cloves when you start the meat, and mash them into the stock after they cook to tender.

This is the way to do it! Comes out perfect. I only brand 2 minor changes. I actually simply let the cabbage boil peradventure five minutes. I like it to exist much crispier. And, I really don't similar the spice packet. Comes out merely dandy without it.

First of all, let me country I am not a corned beef fan. I decided to cover my 12.v % Irish gaelic blood in me on a whim this morn and make something in honor of St. Patrick's Day. Stumbled upon this recipe with such rave reviews that I dashed out to the market in search of a 3 lb corned beefiness and some soda bread...got Guinness every bit an impulse item to authenticate the meal while I was at it, and glad I did since I used the reviewers suggestions and gave up ii of the bottles for the pot. I warned my married man of almost 25 years that if nosotros didn't like the meat, there were plenty of veggies to sustain u.s.a.. All I tin can say is I can no longer say I'g non a corned beef fan...though so far I only similar my ain recipe (see how rapidly something I learn becomes my own--information technology's a Greek thing)! Not large into potatoes, only the family is, and potatoes are just so Irish. Simmered three hours, then added potatoes for 15 min, and then the carrots for some other 15 and then cabbage for the terminal 15. I heated up purchased Irish Soda Bread while the cabbage simmered. I served the meal on a large platter with the meat against one side of the platter, with the veggies surrounding the meat--I put the potatoes on one side of the meat, the carrots on the other side and the cabbage between, surrounding the meat for a colorful presentation. The adults were given Guinness Bottles a

Delicious. Nosotros enjoyed this very much. I had no cherry-red potatoes, and so I used 6 medium-sized russets I had already, peeled and quartered. I layered the potatoes and carrots on the bottom of my crock pot and put the meat on top. My cabbage did not fit in my crock, and then I laid it on pinnacle of the meat. I filled it halfway with water, threw in a few beef bullion cubes and permit it cook. As the crock filled with juice I pushed the cabbage downwardly a scrap. I cooked it on high for 5 hours or so and everything was slap-up. Loved information technology. I don't think information technology needed the beef bullion. Very flavorful broth!

This was my starting time fourth dimension making corned beef, and I will definitely be making it again! The procedure is and so easy, if somewhat lengthy, merely the results are well worth it. I used half of the seasoning parcel included in the bundle with the meat, and likewise took the recommended advice of using beef broth as the cooking liquid. When it was washed cooking, I constitute the meat to be as well salty, so I took the advice of another user and made a uncomplicated glaze out of brown sugar, mustard, butter, ketchup, and apple tree cider vinegar, then put the beef in a small baking pan and baked information technology at 350 for half an hour while the veggies cooked in the on the stove. I was a piffling skeptical, only the upshot was an extremely tender, salty-sweetness brisket that went perfectly with the vegetables.

I prepare this dish quite often as my family unit loves it! I just add, during the last one/2 hour, the potatoes and carrots effectually the beef then place cabbage wedges on summit of everything to steam, cover and terminate cooking. Also, to serve DO please effort a generous corporeality of French's Mustard on the sliced corn beef and butter on the veggies ...it's just heavenly!

Information technology got my 6 yr old girl to eat cabbage. My wife and 2 year old son are non too swell on corned beef, simply the kid and I dear corned beefiness (peculiarly cold leftovers). This recipe was simple and perfect. I oasis't added cabbage since my daughter was born, but I thought I would give information technology a shot. I did add together onions, fresh garlic, extra mustard seed, and celery, but on the whole it would have been easy and delicious regardless. I also cut upwardly the red potatoes and carrots and boiled them off x min before adding the cabbage, then boiled off the cabbage for 10 min, so returned the rested beef to the pot for another ten-15 min on simmer. Anyway you lot do information technology, it'south easy and delicious. Will add mushrooms adjacent time, I think. If you cut your potatoes don't overcook. I also serve with Southern style cornbread.

This recipe worked well. I did cook my brisket in h2o and the veggies turned out just a scrap banal. Adjacent time I will try using beef goop as suggested by other reviewers. All in all a practiced recipe that I will employ again.
